The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission completes the free 2014 History Brown Bag Series held on the 4th Thursday of each month through October, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., at the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street. On October 23, 2014 in the Community Room of the museum, Kent Smith will give a presentation entitled "A Real Cowboy." According to Mr. Smith, From bridge builder to sheep shearing to becoming a Real Cowboy, this is an anecdotal historical story about how two brothers became cowboys and ranchers in Colorado. The subjects of this talk were his grandfather and his great uncle, who like so many others came west to seek their fortunes. Although not still the Wild West, the eastern plains of Colorado were unforgiving at times and bountiful at others. "A Real Cowboy" is taken from Mr. Smith's original biographical history "Moore Fun Than Anybody.?" The public is cordially invited to attend and bring a sack lunch. This series provides citizens the chance to hear interesting historical topics, primarily focused on Greeley and Weld County, and promotes local cultural heritage. The "A Real Cowboy" History Brown Bag is the final historic preservation event for 2014. Please call the Historic Preservation Office if you have ideas for future History Brown Bag talks or if you have a history presentation you would like to discuss and potentially present.
