Thursday Feb 12, 2015

888.861.7323 Writing Colorado, a year long series, features twelve writers whose books reveal the essential character of this state we call home. Colorado's landscapes and lifescapes inspired many writers in the last two and a half centuries. Some just passed through, some came and stayed; some did not become writers until they lived here awhile. Their words live on, long after they have disappeared, speaking of yesterday’s Colorado so that we might more clearly understand the Colorado of today.Date and Time

Description
The selection for February is Bayard Taylor's "Colorado: A Summer Trip" (1866). An aspiring writer whose works of fiction never captured the reading public’s fancy nevertheless wrote and published voluminously. Bayard Taylor traveled the world and Horace Greeley published his descriptive tales of people and places. In the summer of 1866, the young Territory of Colorado became Taylor’s next destination; and for three months his journey across plains, foothills, and mountains captured the American imagination.
