Description
A Greeley native and a graduate of University High School. He then attended Colorado State University, where as a Ram he received a B.A. in History, earned his social studies teaching certificate, and balanced his time at CSU by playing catcher for the Ram’s baseball team.
After graduating from CSU, John headed back to UNC to pursue an M.A. in Educational Administration, as well as to serve as assistant coach for the UNC Bears baseball team.
After his time as a Bear he continued his love for baseball and became a scout for the Chicago Cubs.
Following baseball John found his true passion in teaching, becoming a District 6 middle and high school educator, instructing in various schools within the district. He retired, concluding his career at Greeley West, as a Social Studies teacher and tennis coach. While at West he was a Teacher of the Year and was later inducted into the GW Hall of Fame.
Continuing his family’s legacy of community involvement John currently serves as a Greeley Evans School District Six Board of Education member, the executive committee of the North Colorado Medical Center Foundation, Greeley Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and Greeley Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. In his spare time he is also co-site chair of the CHSAA “A” State Basketball Tournament, CHSAA co-site chair of the “AAA” State Baseball Tournament, and CHSAA future site chair for the “AAA” boys and girls State Tennis Tournament. He is a member of the Catholic Community Charities Migrant Housing Board, and is a fishing guide for disabled active & veteran military personnel with Healing Waters. John’s latest under taking is becoming part of the Poudre Learning Center Foundation.
John is blessed to be married to Delia, a middle level math educator at Winograd K-8. They have surrogate children, twins Nicole and Ashley Larson, plus their beloved Labrador retriever Fenway. Delia and John enjoy traveling, working out, playing tennis, hiking and fly-fishing together.
