Banner MD Anderson to host Cancer Survivors Day educational event in Greeley
GREELEY, Colo. (June 2, 2026) – Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley will host a free Survivors Day educational event on Saturday, June 6 to honor local cancer survivors and raise awareness of the ongoing challenges after diagnosis and treatment. As one of the nation's few fully integrated nonprofit health systems, Banner Health is committed to advancing cancer care and supporting patients throughout their entire journey.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Banner, 1800 15th St. in Greeley, reflecting Banner’s commitment to whole-person care that extends beyond treatment to address the physical, emotional, and practical needs of survivors and their families. Survivors Day is free and open to cancer survivors, family members and caregivers.
“The definition of a cancer survivor is as unique as the individual. It begins at the time of diagnosis and may change throughout their lifetime,” said Kristi Shaffer, oncology social worker at Banner MD Anderson. “Survivors and their loved ones often continue to navigate physical, emotional, financial and practical concerns long after a diagnosis. This event is designed to bring people together and provide helpful education to remind survivors they are not alone.”
The event exemplifies Banner's integrated approach to cancer care, connecting patients with coordinated support services, community resources, and expert guidance designed to help survivors navigate life after treatment with confidence. A panel of experts will discuss topics related to life during and after cancer treatment, including physical symptom management, emotional well-being, rehabilitation, nutrition, community resources and financial concerns. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in educational sessions that include presentations on psycho-oncology, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, as well as nutrition, a chair yoga session and a preview of American Cancer Society programs. Guests will also be able to ask questions and connect with experts throughout the day.
Katie Doble, of Denver, Colo., will serve as the event’s keynote speaker, sharing her experience as a stage 4 uveal melanoma survivor and patient advocate. Doble was given 16 months to live in 2013, after her cancer spread to her liver. She went on to participate in four clinical trials and later faced cancer that spread to her brain, defying long odds through persistence, advocacy and access to innovative treatment options. Her story offers a powerful perspective on survivorship, resilience and the importance of continuing to seek support throughout the cancer journey.
“For many patients and families, survivorship brings a new set of questions,” Shaffer said. “Our goal is to provide practical information, meaningful support and connection to local resources that can help survivors continue moving forward with confidence.”
This free event is part of Banner Health's broader commitment to community benefit and removing barriers to care. As a nonprofit health system, Banner provided more than $1 billion in community benefit in 2025, ensuring that all community members have access to vital health services and support.
Street and garage parking will be available. Attendees should enter through the ground floor entrance door No. 4 and follow the signs from the lobby to the auditorium. Registration is free and begins at 8 a.m. and is required for attendance. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. To register in advance, visit bannerhealth.com/nocosurvivorday.
